Lent is a retreat: a break amid the usual routines of our lives, over the forty-day period from Ash Wednesday until Easter. According to the Torah, on the Sabbath you can pick up an apple that naturally falls from a tree onto the ground, but you can’t pick it from the tree. Mindful Christian meditative prayer practice is very similar. In it, we take time to see things as they are, without interfering with them or trying to fix or change them. Once we know what is, we can then think and act wisely on what ought to be.
Lacey writes, “In honor of Lent, I have felt called to teach a contemplative prayer class on love, which is what Jesus taught. How to love in many different forms. Love has the power to change the world, even if it is just our own world. My personal relationship with Jesus has taught me to love in a different way and my meditation practice has allowed me to train my mind so that my heart is more readily open to hear. I hope you will join me into this 4-week journey into the heart of the four aspects of love.
My Buddhist meditation teacher training and practice has deeply impacted and deepened my relationship with Christ. I feel called to share how contemplative prayer has the power to transform our minds and hearts into a deeper level of love. Romans 12:2 states : ‘Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.’”
